Different eTA rules apply when you enter by land or sea

An eTA is generally not required when you enter by car, bus, train or an ordinary boat or ship.

The documents you need to enter Canada depend not only on your nationality but also on your mode of travel.

In every case, however, you must hold a valid passport and meet the entry requirements, and the final decision on admission is made at the border on arrival.
